Holiday Feature: Halloween

Can you believe that Halloween is just around the corner? From ghosts and goblins to witches and scarecrows, the possibilities are endless when decorating your home for Halloween.  If you are planning on decorating or you are looking for some ideas on how to scarify your front yard and porch, you have come to the right place!

Creepy Crawlies

What’s spookier than a spider web? Use these fake webs on your outdoor wall light – allowing the light to shine through to achieve an eerie glow. You can also add these webs to bushes, trees, hand railings, brick walls to get your desired look! Consider adding some fake bugs to the web for an even scarier look.

Spooky Lighting

Keep your trick-or-treaters safe with some haunting lighting choices. Set up your carved and lit pumpkins all around the yard to create lighted pathways. You can also add string lights or glow in the dark eyes to give an extra creepy touch.

Don’t forget – change out your light bulbs. The way you light the area will set the mood for the rest of your decorations. This is the easiest way to give your home that Halloween feel.¬† Use reds, oranges, purples, greens or blues to create that eerie glow. Use existing light fixtures or add some fun spot lights to complete the look. Plus – it’s an easy and inexpensive way to spookify your home.

Halloween Sounds

Would it even be Halloween without sound effects? Bubbling cauldrons, cackling  witches and moaning ghosts will easily have those trick-or-treaters applying caution to their every step! You can find tons of sounds online to suit whatever scene you have planned.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun, but stay safe. If you are taking children trick-or-treating, make sure they are supervised and visible in the dark. If you’re staying home to hand out some candy – be sure there aren’t any tripping hazards on your walkway. While fake injuries are a great addition to your costume – real ones are not. Be safe!
